If you like having your hair up for a special event, watch this video, containing three tutorials created by a talented hair enthusiast Lydia, an author of a popular Instagram blog @whatlydialikes.

1. Sleek Chignon Bun

In her first tutorial, Lydia demonstrates a very easy way of making an elegant formal updo. She separates a side section and puts the rest of her hair in a low ponytail. Using a spiral scrunchie instead of a regular band helps to avoid any tension and makes it more comfortable for those prone to headaches caused by wearing hair up.

Lydia flips the ponytail through a small part just above the ponytail. She then wraps the ends and pins them underneath to create a bun shape. You can slightly backcomb the hair to prevent the strands from falling apart in the middle. If you want to keep all the hair together, tie the ends with a small elastic band before tucking them under. Spray your bun with a strong hold hairspray and use the can to smooth out the flyaways.

Next, the blogger brings the side strand across the bun and secures it underneath. If you gently tease it first, this will help to achieve more body and make your hairstyle more secure.

2. Low Textured Bun

For the second hairstyle, a layered bun, as Lydia calls it, she takes the top section of her hair and makes a ponytail. You can pull out some strands to get more volume and texture. Then, the video creator leaves some strands for face-framing effect and gathers the rest of her hair in a low ponytail. On her next step, Lydia splits the ponytail into three sections, twists each into a loop and pins in place, bringing them over each other and across. This creates a lovely textured shape.

3. Braided Updo

The third look is a low bun with a braided detail. Lydia makes two braids on each side of her parting and puts them into a ponytail with the rest of the hair. Backcombing the crown area beforehand will help to create more body.

Just like with the first hairstyle, Lydia makes a gap above the ponytail and flips her hair through. However, this time she pulls it over. This gives a nice swoop to the sides which she pulls out for a softer look. Finally, Lydia wraps the ends of the ponytail up to make the shape of a bun. Those with fine hair can use a small donut padding to give the bun more volume and a better shape.
